Trends in Logistics - Revolution in the Processes of Freight Forwarding Companies

Trends in logistics - In addition to (and thanks to) covid, digitalization and the move to the online environment also dominated the past year. More than ever, we are now used to doing most things online, whether it be work or shopping. However, in order for transport companies to cope with the increase in the volume of services provided without loss of quality and reliability, they needed to adapt to the new situation and make many changes in internal processes. What are the changes and what will be the next trends in logistics? Read on to find out.

Last year, the whole world found itself in a situation that no one expected. Consumer society, accustomed to daily shopping, was not allowed to go to stores at once, and the only way to buy many goods was to order them on the Internet.

Transport companies had only a very short time to navigate and adapt to the new situation. However, with the rapid increase in the volume of services provided and the associated turnover, costs also increased. And often indirectly.

“Despite very good business management, reporting of financial results does not reach the finance department sufficiently on time, and so change decisions come late. “

In many transport companies, it has become clear that despite very good business management, the reporting of financial results does not reach the finance department in a timely manner, which means that changes in the process procedure and price setting are late. It turns out that reporting at weekly or monthly intervals is no longer sufficient.

Without cost and revenue prediction based on detailed analysis of their development over hours and days, and without monitoring financial flows online and virtually in real time, it is almost impossible to manage costs according to their ideas.

It is also necessary to think about internal processes. For example, real-time monitoring of receivables can often be a very complex task for the finance department due to cash transactions in dispensaries or the lack of speed of transfers through terminals. Even in today's cashless era, it is still necessary for freight forwarding companies to offer customers the possibility of paying with cash. However, this is an option that brings with it more complications than benefits.

“The involvement of artificial intelligence is a challenge that most freight forwarders and logistics centers accept in the context of saving space and time capacity. “

In connection with the growing number of employees, companies will be forced to automate the handover, and in the future it is very likely that transportation will also occur. Not only boxes, but also automated warehouses are no longer just the music of the future. The involvement of artificial intelligence in the field of transportation of anything is a challenge that is accepted by most freight forwarding companies and logistics centers, especially in the context of saving space and time capacity.

At the opposite end of the arduous process are the customer and the courier or the delivery point. Freight forwarding companies cannot do without favorable contractual conditions for collaborators and constant evaluation of customer satisfaction.

The customer wants to navigate and make decisions according to something. Not only price plays an important role, but also the quality and availability of the services provided, and for transport companies, a good customer experience is largely decisive. As part of the competitive struggle, companies therefore emphasize customer relations, fair negotiations, simplicity of the ordering process and affordability.

All of the above is logically connected with the maturity of the IT background of transport companies and logistics centers and the sufficient experience of their IT partners, who can see the issues of processes and successful business in context. Those companies that managed to immerse themselves in the digitization process during the difficult period of the coronavirus crisis have a head start.
